Studies and Research
The Language Practices Observatory encourages research on languages spoken in France. The observatory does not itself do research. It launches calls for proposals and supports studies conducted by teams of academics and CNRS. It creates new spaces for dissemination of information and exchange with decision-makers, social actors and cultural actors concerned about scientific data
Since its creation, the Observatory has carried out eight thematic calls for proposals on various themes. 71 research projects were selected and supported.
- 1999:Observation of language practices in France
- 2000:Observation of linguistic contact in a specific geographical and social situation
- 2001:Family transmission and non didactic language acquisition
- 2005 : LSF
- 2008 : Exploitation and use of oral corpus
- 2010 : Observation, description, analysis of codic, French, French and other languages in contact on French territory
- 2013 Observation of linguistic practices in French languages.
Apart from these calls, the Observatory supports projects each year which are presented to it spontaneously. Finally, the DGLFLF maintains a partnership with the research federations of the CNRS «Institut de Linguistique Française» and «Typologie et universaux linguistiques».
The Observatory has also supported several research projects or programmes in partnership with INSEE and INED.
Since 2021, the publication Languages and Research is the result of a partnership between the General Delegation for the French Language and the Languages of France and the Joint Research Unit LLL – Laboratoire ligérien de linguistique. The collection Languages and Research brings together studies and syntheses supported by the various missions of the General Delegation to the French language and the languages of France, and written by experts, researchers and researchers.
