European Economic and Social Committee
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) represents the social groups of the European Union. It is not an institution but an advisory body. The members are organized into three representative groups: Group I (employers) Group II (employees) and Group III (various activities, composed of producers and consumers of goods and services.
In the field of heritage, The EESC has, for example, opinion on 'The contribution of Europe’s rural areas to 2018, the European Year of Cultural Heritage to ensure sustainability and cohesion between urban and rural areas» in the context of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, to understand how Europe’s rural cultural heritage constitutes a valuable asset that deserves to be highlighted in the same way as urban heritage, consider the measures necessary to ensure the sustainability of landscapes, habitats, species and human footprints and examine how to put in place creative initiatives, and improve cooperation between rural and urban areas, notably through the promotion of rural cultural tourism.
Each year the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) awards a prize, with the aim of rewarding and encouraging initiatives carried out by individuals and/or civil society organisations that have contributed significantly to the promotion of European identity and integration. The general objective is to raise public awareness of the contribution that individuals and/or civil society organisations can make to the creation of a European identity and citizenship, reflecting the common values on which European integration is based.
The specific objective of the 2019 Civil Society Prize is to reward innovative initiatives in the Union that aim to fight for equality between women and men and raise awareness of this issue in the European Union (equal rights, equal opportunities, equal responsibility, emancipation and participation in all areas of economic and social life). 5 prizes maximum will be awarded: the first prize is endowed with 14,000 EUR (9,000 € for bothth, 3th and 4th). The awards ceremony will take place at the EESC plenary session on 11 and 12 December 2019. Two representatives per winner will be invited to the ceremony. Travel and accommodation will be organised by the EESC in accordance with rules which will be communicated to the winners in due course.
