The Ministry of Culture is involved in many projects aimed at promoting diversity and combating discrimination in its internal operations and in all cultural sectors.
of the cultural professions are women while they are the majority (61%) in the schools of Higher Education Culture
works programmed during the 2018-19 season in the performing arts and dance sector were written by women
knights of the Order of Art and Letters were women in 2018
Prevention and the fight against gender and sexual violence and harassment are priorities for action of the Ministry of Culture. The impunity often enjoyed by perpetrators of reprehensible behaviour is combated; the freedom of speech of victims and witnesses is encouraged; and all are urged to refuse any form of harassment or disrespect.
To target priorities for action and combat denial, statistical knowledge of inequalities is essential. Inequalities between women and men in culture have been indisputable since Queen Prat’s reports in 2006 and 2009 highlighted them. Annual and ad hoc studies show that the place of women in the cultural and creative sectors is increasing, but still insufficient.
At the Ministry of Culture, strong commitments are made to radically change internal and external practices, so that the teams and directorates of creative institutions better reflect society, and that all audiences are present and represented in cultural programming (exhibitions, festivals, series, films, etc.).
Students in Culture higher education are the prime target of inclusion and anti-discrimination policies. Each school is assisted in the establishment of an ethical charter, in the establishment of mixed and welcoming study environments for all student profiles, in the awareness of its teaching teams on issues of equality and diversity, in the formation of joint juries, and in the extension of the range of works studied and the proposed careers.
The Ministry of Culture supports networks and self-help workshops in the cultural sectors. Through the sharing of experiences, these networks make it possible to identify the obstacles encountered in the course of careers, and to reflect collectively on the levers to be mobilized to overcome them.
