The Bernard Liou Library: a scientific library open to researchers and students
The Bernard Liou Library gathers the collection of the Drassm, specialized in the field of marine and underwater archaeology, and that of the former CNRAS of Annecy, especially dedicated to the archaeology of fresh waters. It was enriched in 2009 by the personal library of Bernard Liou, former director of the Drassm disappeared in 2006.
It includes:
- 9,300 works;
- 1,000 drawn separately;
- 77 journal titles in progress.
The current fund covers most of the areas of competence of the department: underwater archaeology, river and lake, maritime history, history of architecture and shipbuilding, shipwrecks and wrecks, submerged sites, history of diving, studies and inventories of amphoras and ceramics, metallurgy, artillery, preventive conservation...
The library catalogue is available on the Catalogue Collectif Indexé Frantiq. You will find records of the works of the library and also collections of periodicals, extracts from journals or proceedings of colloquia, and documents available online in open access.
The Bernard Liou library is open to researchers, archaeologists and students by appointment.
The photo-video library: a unique collection in the world
The Drassm Photo Library brings together more than 120,000 digitized and restored documents. This fund, unique in the world, traces the major milestones in the history of the discipline through:
- 90,000 phototypes,
- 250 video tapes of all types;
- hundreds of scientific files.
All photos and videos are available online in the database Memory of the Ministry of Culture.
Archives: thousands of wreck files
The scientific archives of the Drassm include all documents relating to maritime cultural property in waters under French jurisdiction as well as those dealing with wrecks lost under French flag in foreign or international waters.
Each wreck file includes at least the marine cultural property declaration or the reference of the collected archives. Depending on the studies carried out, there are also expert reports, operations and analysis reports and publications.
This documentation is used to populate the national database Patriarch. The consultation of Patriarche by students and researchers is sometimes at the origin of new research programs whose results contribute in turn to feed the base.
