The National Architecture Days will take place on Friday, October 18 (especially reserved for schools as part of the “Raise your eyes!” operation). This event, initiated by the Ministry of Culture, is implemented by the Regional Directorates of Cultural Affairs (DRAC).
Public events to broaden the perspective on architecture
In the imagination of the inhabitants, architecture is often reserved for monuments and large facilities. The rest of our living environment would be made of buildings. Yet, whether scholarly or popular, small or large, public or private, everything is architecture in our environment.
It is to this broadening of the perspective that the National Architecture Days invite by simultaneously stimulating and federating, in all regions, events promoting architecture in the broad sense including urbanism and housing.
The event is aimed at children, young people and adults, in a festive and educational dimension. The aim is to unveil the richness of remarkable contemporary architecture wherever it is located, to promote the understanding by all citizens of the issue of architecture in improving the living environment, to tell the story of the built environment that surrounds us, to awaken curiosity and artistic sensibilities and to value the cultural, scientific, technical and social contribution of architecture, around three main objectives:
- to show architecture as it is, simple and inhabited, at the heart of our daily life;
- nourish the architectural culture of all audiences;
- give the keys to see and experience architecture.
The theme 2024: "New life of buildings and new practices of architecture"
This 9e Its theme is "New life of buildings and new practices of architecture".
The rehabilitation of existing buildings is a major challenge of the ecological transition and is one of the main levers of carbon neutrality. Good practices in this area are no longer limited to buildings with recognized heritage value, and can now be assessed on a whole housing stock consisting largely of residential buildings, but also other types of buildings (industrial, agricultural, commercial). This edition will highlight central themes for the quality of architecture and living environment today, both in urban and rural areas, including:
- the concept of heritage and inheritance;
- the redevelopment of brownfields, obsolete commercial spaces, and the enhancement of old spaces
- the creation of new local synergies between architects, landscapers and sectors of construction and reuse of materials
- adapting to social and cultural changes;
- the dialogue between architects and users/
«Raise your eyes»: an awareness action in the direction of schools
Friday is more specifically dedicated, since 2019, to raising awareness of architecture and architectural heritage «Raise your eyes», organized in partnership by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of National Education and Youth, for schools.
The objective is to make young people aware of their architectural environment, and to offer them, accompanied by their teachers, discoveries of architectural heritage elements located near their school, to learn to read and experience architecture.
