The mission of promoting architectural, landscape and urban quality
Transversal, this mission aims to reflect on the promotion of architecture and urban quality in Normandy.
The mission of promoting architectural, landscape and urban quality within the DRAC corresponds to the ambition of the Architecture Act of 3 January 1977, in introduction of its article 1: Architecture is an expression of culture. The architectural creation, the quality of the constructions, their harmonious insertion in the surrounding environment, the respect of the natural or urban landscapes as well as the heritage are of public interest».
Through this mission, the DRAC conducts a permanent and transversal reflection on the qualitative issues of contemporary creation in terms of architecture, landscape and urban planning that contribute to the definition of living environments and respect for the environment.
Integrating the issues related to the realization of the architectural project, the planning of the territory, the extension of urbanization, the protection of the heritage and the sustainable development, this mission observes the coherence of the practices of construction and development of sites and landscapes, and the objectives of heritage policies.
Its task is to accompany and support the training, information and awareness-raising actions of the public about the knowledge of the territories and their evolution in terms of new uses and lifestyles, the actuality of architectural projects, The European Commission’s Green Paper on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection and the related mechanisms implemented by the various administrative services and professionals.
