The RPDe city of Caen
The strategic aerial bombardments carried out by the Allies on the city of Caen in the days following the June 6, 1944 landing destroyed the city on a little more than 30% of its surface and reduced to ruins about 68% of its built volume. The architect-planner Marc Brillaud de Laujardière appointed by the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning was responsible for drawing up the reconstruction and development plan for Caen approved by the city council in 1947. Operations began in late 1948 and ended in 1963.

This reconstruction was carried out carefully with the important use of Caen stone and the addition of suitable ornaments (bas-relief, ironwork, sculptures are all remarkable elements) bringing to the city an elegant and composite contemporary architecture. The question of the maintenance of these monuments currently arises, in a context of ecological transition and respect for the harmony induced by the Reconstruction.
Since 2021, the city of Caen has been a Remarkable Heritage Site. Its perimeter extends over 712 ha which encompass the old center, the classical city, the city of reconstruction and the suburbs of the nineteenth and early twentieth.
The SPR has a management tool, the regulation of the architecture and heritage valuation area.
Like all the regulations, that of the SPR of Caen is a collection of prescriptions. Elected officials also wanted it to have an educational scope. This will is reflected in two ways, in the presentation of the document on the one hand, in the establishment of weekly offices on the other hand, where applicants meet elected officials, technical services and the architect of the buildings of France. This collegial approach towards the public makes it possible to advise and accompany the project owners in their projects located in SPR. At stake, reconcile heritage development and ecological transition.
A draft ofBio-based renovation at the heart of the SPR
In Caen, a low consumption house (BBC) in the heart of the Remarkable Heritage Sector (SPR) is being renovated. This project validated and supported by the UDAP of Calvados presents a double constraint: respect for the environment and heritage.
To support this operation, the Maison de l'habitat but also an architect. Accompanied and assisted (MaprimeRénov), these renovation operations are in line with the town planning and allow a serene management of the site.
What is the BBC label?
A building BBC is a construction that meets the criteria of energy performance of low consumption buildings.
Ministerial order of 3 May 2007. It sets a maximum consumption target for new residential buildings (dwellings in collective buildings and single-detached houses) set at 50 kWhep/m²/year
The label offers advantages. In the case of renovation, a large number of aid for energy renovation is applied to insulation work, subject to compliance with the eco-conditionality laid down by theartisans RGE (recognised as being environmentally responsible)
