On 22 January 2012, the city of Bourges, the Maison de la Culture and the Double Coeur association paid tribute to Gabriel Monnet, a pioneer of theatre decentralization in the 1950s and 1960s and the first director of the Maison de la Culture from 1964 to 1969. The square in front of the municipal theatre, where the entrance to the artists of the time when Gabriel Monnet was its director, now bears his name.
Olivier Atlan, current director of the Maison de la Culture, closed this tribute by presenting his project for the establishment in continuity with the work of the actor and director. Jean-Claude Monnet, son of the man of the day, was present for this tribute as well as many personalities from the performing arts world who knew or worked with Gabriel Monnet.
