Museum service in Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) of Nouvelle-Aquitaine implements, for museums, the policies of the Ministry of Culture in favour of conservation, dissemination and equal access to public collections, and exercises scientific and technical control over the "museums of France" of the New Aquitaines.
The DRAC museum advisers, in constant dialogue with local authorities and professionals in the sector, work in the following areas:
Structuring of museums
On the basis of a detailed knowledge of the nature and condition of the existing collections, their statutes, the premises that house them and the financial and human resources allocated to them, DRAC provides technical and scientific assistance for the development of museum projects in the region and for naming applications «museum of France». Museum advisors support the development and implementation of a scientific and cultural project (CSP).
Council for the conservation and management of collections
Attentive to the conditions of conservation of the collections, the advisers for the museums ensure the good physical conservation and security of the museum collections, as well as the application of the statutory texts relative to the inventory and the proofing. They accompany the advance of the computerization and digitization of the collections of the museums of France in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Procurement Support
Responsible for the regulatory framework of acquisitions through the organization of the scientific commission; the advisors for the museums organize the implementation of the Regional Museum Acquisition Fund (FRAM) whose funds are funded on a par basis by the State and the Regional Council.
Development of heritage and expansion of the public
The advisers follow the actions to enhance and promote the museum heritage in Nouvelle-Aquitaine: scientific publications, exhibitions, cultural and educational activities, public development.
Information and training
The museum advisers animate the network of museums through associations federating curators and teams of museums in France. They encourage the ongoing training of staff in relation to the National Centre of the Territorial Public Service (CNFPT).
Decennial payment
Proofing is the verification of the presence of works from inventories. It is the consequence of the existence of a public domain (of the State and the local authorities) whose integrity it serves to verify. This is a very old practice, but recently included in the French Museums Act 2002 and codified in Article L.451-2 of the French Heritage Code, which states that the collections of museums in France are inscribed on an inventory. They are proofed every ten years.”
Examination of grant application files
The DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine can provide financial support to projects supported by the Museums of France: inventory, proofing, acquisition, digitization, exhibition...modernization works.
