Unique in its kind, the festival Lock is not a joke (LINAJ) offers every year since 2015, a masterclass all levels, for a week, with the biggest names in the discipline. Funk dance at the origins of Hip-Hop, locking was born in Los Angeles in the 1970s, drawing its inspiration from the Social Dance party of the Soul movement. Since then, the phenomenon has spread to the four corners of the planet and has spawned immense talents worthy heirs of Don Campbell, its creator.
Coming from all over the world, it’s the cream of the crop that was at the rendezvous of this explosive week, where young and old, beginners or experienced, were able to groove relentlessly on wild Funk tunes. Some sixty disciples, inhabitants of the Creuse or the four corners of the world, had the privilege of exchanging, learning and training alongside the greatest.
From L.A. to la Creuse, the best in locking
Straight from America, Asia and Europe, the biggest names in locking have responded to Julia Ortola’s invitation. A member of the Women Active association, the 2017 Locking World Champion has been organizing the LINAJ festival since its inception in 2015. It is therefore in all logic that the headliners Lockadelic, Hilty and Bosch, Neal and Gemini were present to train the best lockers of tomorrow.
“LINAJ is an event for all dancers, […] but also for all audiences, curious or connoisseurs”
Festivities and battle as a final bouquet
To close this intense week, a live concert, hand-picked guest exhibitions and a professional competition of dancers from around the world made up the final bouquet. LINAJ’s highlight, the battle 1 VS 1 Locking was won by Penny K, a Cypriot dancer who won a jury of the best of her kind. In connection with the project carried out by the association Women active autour de la culture reunionnaise, it is the artist Nine and the group Shap Shap Studio, who ensured the closing concert.
