Born in Cestas (Gironde) in 1951, Jean Sabrier quickly turned to art after obtaining a mechanical CAP. Inspired by the greatest masters of the Renaissance – Piero della Francesca, Paolo Ucello – as well as unclassifiable singers of experimentation like Marcel Duchamp, the self-taught artist who touches everything, Jean Sabrier, delivers a polymorphous work that invites the visitor to shift his gaze.
Time and movement are at the heart of his work of sculpture, installation, photography and painting, all of which offer a perceptive experience that is both enjoyable and destabilizing.
Alice Cavender, a specialist of Jean Sabrier and curator of the exhibition, invites the public, in the wake of the artist, to question the meaning of art and the artist’s profession.
The label Exposition of national interest
Local cultural policy is a priority of the Ministry of Culture, which encourages ambitious projects, in the heart of the territories and close to the citizens. This is what is proposed by the exhibitions labeled of national interest. Since 1999, the Ministry of Culture has awarded this label every year to a selection of exhibitions meeting exemplary criteria, presented in the regions by museums in France. These exhibitions are selected on the basis of their scientific quality and the innovative nature of the cultural mediation actions directed towards all audiences.
