Conferences are organized by the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Regional Archaeology Service, in collaboration with the University Lille 3, Halma-Ipel-UMR 8164 (CNRS, Lille3, MCC).
These days are an opportunity to meet the different actors and institutions of regional archaeology (Service régional de l'archéologie, Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives, services archéologiques de collectivités territoriales, universitaires, membres du CNRS, opérateurs privés, amateurs) and to get acquainted with the archaeological news of the North - Pas-de-Calais.
Several remains, presented during these days, have been updated thanks to archaeological diagnostics prior to development work. Preventive archaeology allows archaeologists, in close collaboration with planners, to carry out excavations, upstream of construction sites, which allow to save valuable testimonies in studies and, in exceptional cases, to preserve them. They also guarantee developers the possibility to carry out their projects without risking a break in construction, thus limiting the impact of excavations, and to reconcile the requirements of heritage conservation and economic development.
Archaeologists will present the results of the most significant excavations, some of which will be delivered for the first time to the general public. This year, a special place is reserved for the presentation of the work conducted by the Halma-Ipel-UMR 8164 research unit (CNRS, Lille3, MCC).
The event is open to all subject to availability. Scientific publications and extension materials will be available at the event.
