This year, particular attention will be paid to the diversity and richness of the archaeological heritage of the Scheldt Valley (North) through the following presentations:
- A summary of the human presence in the Scheldt valley; during the Mesolithic period, announcing the resumption of field work on this poorly known period of regional prehistory,
- major preventive excavations in the north-western part of the ancient town of Famars,
- Results of the study of a VII habitat;e-IXe centuries in Noyelles-sur-Escaut which reveal the attraction of the valley during the High Middle Ages,
- the rediscovery of part of the fortifications of the city of Cambrai and the urban fortifications of the remarkable site of the Arsenal in Condé-sur-l'Escaut. It recalls that the river is at the origin of the development of many Roman and medieval cities.
This event is an opportunity to meet and exchange with the different actors and institutions of regional archaeology such as the Regional Service of Archaeology, the National Institute of preventive archaeological research, archaeological services of local authorities, academics, members of the CNRS, private operators, and amateurs .
These study days are open to all within the limits of places available. Scientific publications and extension materials will be available at the event.
