Mis à jour le
Property of the State, the site of Fort Harrouard is classified as Historical Monuments since 1934. With a Neolithic enclosure occupied in the Middle Ages, it was excavated in the first half of the 20th century, highlighting many remains. Most of the objects are to be discovered at the Musée d'archéologie nationale-Domaine national de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
Made up of dry meadows and lawns, natural environments that have become rare, the site is also known for its biological interest. It is listed in the National Inventory of Natural Areas of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF), a national inventory of sites rich in biodiversity. It is an integral part of the European network of protected sites for their biodiversity (Natura 2000 network) within the "Eure and Maintenon Valley to Anet and its tributary valleys".
