The DRAC conducts the State’s cultural policy in the field of the promotion of architectural, urban and landscape quality in the Centre-Val de Loire region. As such, it is responsible for:
- contribute to the development and evaluation of spatial planning policies in the field of architecture and landscape;
- support architectural and landscape design;
- ensure the animation and coordination of regional structures in charge of the dissemination of architectural culture (national operations, CAUE, the House of Architecture, FRAC...);
- coordinating the actions of the Territorial Architectural and Heritage Services (STAP);
- participate in the politics of cities and countries of art and history (VPAH);
- ensure the implementation of the policy in favor of gardens (label «Remarkable gardens», Rendes-vous aux jardins...);
- to assume the role of government commissioner to the order of architects of the Region.
It contributes, through the expertise of the territorial services of architecture and heritage (STAP), to promote a quality architecture and urban planning integrating harmoniously with the surrounding environment.
The DRAC manages and monitors the properties inscribed on the World Heritage List in the Centre-Val de Loire region:
- Cathedrals of Bourges (Cher) and Chartres (Eure-et-Loir);
- Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostel (Saint-Étienne collegiate church at Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre (Indre);
- Val de Loire World Heritage, inscribed on the World Heritage List for cultural landscapes; the DRAC contributes to the preservation of the Outstanding Universal Value (VUE) the site through the implementation of the management plan developed by the State services in consultation with the Centre-Val de Loire and Pays de la Loire regions.
In terms of architectural creation, the DRAC ensures to affirm the role entrusted to the Ministry of Culture and Communication in promoting architectural, urban and landscape quality. It participates in the actions of diffusion of contemporary architecture in liaison with regional structures: Order of architects, House of architecture, FRAC, CAUE (*), urban planning agencies, École nationale supérieure de la nature et du paysage (NPHS)...
The architectural consultancy of the DRAC is provided by the architects and urban planners of the State (AUE) who contribute to the promotion of architectural, urban and landscape quality. They also participate in the dissemination of architectural culture and the conduct of awareness-raising actions.

Albums des jeunes architectes et paysagistes (AJAP)
The « Ajap » are a biennial competition organized by the Ministry of Culture. They distinguish young European architects and landscape designers under the age of 35 who have carried out a project or participated in a competition in France. Results will be announced in Q4 2020 (date to be specified later).
