Mis à jour le
Since 1985, the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with local authorities, has been implementing a policy of animation and enhancement of architecture and heritage through the awarding of the City and Country of Art and History label. This label is awarded to territories, municipalities or groups of municipalities, which engage in an active process of knowledge, conservation, heritage mediation and support to the improvement of architectural quality and living environment.
This approach is the subject of an agreement between the State and the community, renewed every ten years, defining the objectives in particular:
- the implementation of mediation actions aimed at residents, young people and visitors: guided tours, workshops, exhibitions, show visits, publications, signage etc.
- support for the implementation of architectural, urban and landscape schemes: Areas for the enhancement of architecture and heritage (AVAP), architectural and landscape charters ...
- The creation of an architecture and heritage interpretation centre;
- the use of accredited qualified professionals.
The VPah label therefore actively participates in the policy of democratization of culture, as well as the development of cultural tourism and the attractiveness of territories.
At the national level, 196 local authorities benefit from this label, of which 22 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes :
- 7 Cities of art and history: Vienne and Grenoble (Isère) Saint-Etienne (Loire), Aix-les-Bains, Albertville and Chambéry (Savoie), Annecy (Haute-Savoie)
