European Heritage Days in Mayotte
For nearly fifteen years, the Mayotte Directorate of Cultural Affairs has relied on the European Heritage Days (JEP) to develop curiosity and knowledge of heritage by Mahorais. Local heritage contributes fully to the sustainability of intergenerational ties, cultural revitalization and tourism development of the territory. The valorization and safeguarding of tangible or intangible heritage is at the centre of the priorities of the cultural actors of the territory.
European Heritage Days draw the attention of citizens, associations, businesses and communities to the heritage of Mayotte in all its forms (buildings, archaeological sites, heritage collections, intangible cultural heritage, etc.) and the need for a collective commitment to ensure its knowledge, safeguarding and transmission to future generations.
The "Raise My Eyes" operation, designed as part of the development of arts and cultural education, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports, aims to enable schools to (re)discover the local heritage by taking advantage of the activities planned in the JEP programming.

Every year, outside of the Covid crisis in 2020-2021, the JEP attracts between 6,500 and 7,500 visitors across the country. Many local authorities or associations have seized this national event, offering activities around the historic monuments of Mayotte, as well as tangible or intangible cultural heritage.

UPCOMING PROGRAM
To better support the organization of cultural events planned as part of the European Heritage Days, DAC Mayotte proposes a call for projects dedicated to JEP. The number of projects selected under this call for projects is steadily increasing: 11 projects selected in 2019, 13 in 2020, 18 in 2021 and 22 in 2022.
The 2024 call for projects dedicated to the organization of JEP will be opened in May.
