Françoise Nyssen, Minister of Culture, has approved the appointment of Sylvain Groud as director of the Centre chorégraphique national (CCN) Roubaix Hauts-de-France/ Ballet du Nord. It followed the proposal of the jury, validated by the SCC Board of Directors. The jury was composed of representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Hauts-de-France Region, the City of Roubaix and the CCN.
After training at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse in Paris, Sylvain Groud began a career as a performer before becoming involved in choreographic creation for which he received the Prix du Concours international de Paris. In 2002, he founded the MAD Company and moved to Normandy. He creates many plays by multiplying artistic partnerships with authors, videographers, musicians, plastic artists, actors. It also proposes participatory projects in connection with the inhabitants of the territory. He will continue to lead this multi-focal choreographic creation work within the Centre chorégraphique.
The NCC and You Project! , proposed by Sylvain Groud for the CCN Roubaix Hauts-de-France/ Ballet du Nord is fully part of an interactive and participatory approach by defending the development of local projects in the territory with the stated desire to mobilize a diverse audience. It wants to place the SCC in a dynamic local, regional and cross-border partnership, notably through the deployment of a mobile SCC. The project also provides for the choreographic centre’s national and international reach.
It shows a marked openness to all choreographic aesthetics both in the accompaniment of companies and the planned programming. It proposes to devote an important place to female choreographers, especially in the framework of artists' association.
He succeeds the choreographer Olivier Dubois, an artist whose career and creations of great artistic ambition are highly recognized and are destined to develop in an independent company from 2018.
