The Minister of Culture welcomes the initiative carried out by the Centre National du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC), the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles et Wallonie Bruxelles International (FBW/WBI), the Film Fund Luxembourg (FFL), the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Telefilm Canada, TV5MONDE, Orange, France Télévisions, SACD France, SACD Belgium and SACD Canada, which have partnered to develop a promising project to support the French language as a tool for film and audiovisual creation, and the promotion of cultural diversity in the countries of Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa..
This innovative device testifies to the dynamism that the Ministry of Culture and the CNC want to instill in France’s cooperation with francophone Africa. The promotion and development of the Francophonie remains one of Françoise Nyssen’s priorities.
This “Fonds pour la jeune création francophone” aims to support the emergence of young authors in sub-Saharan francophone Africa, the writings and dramaturgies specific to the different territories of francophone Africa, and thus strengthen the dynamism of creation at different levels: cinema (feature and short films), audiovisual (fiction, series, documentaries, etc.) or content dedicated to the web. It consists of three components: support for writing and project development, support for production and support for post-production. It will also encourage the structuring of a local audiovisual ecosystem and help set up projects whose purpose is as much to meet their local audience as to aim for an international audience.
The management of the fund, the coordination of the selective commission and the monitoring of projects are entrusted to the collective Generation Films, a Burkinabe film production company whose goal is to promote and increase the quantity and quality of African productions. The CNC, for its part, was appointed by the partners to be the coordinator of the scheme and to follow up with the Generation Films collective.
