On Saturday 20 May, many museums will open their doors free of charge throughout France and Europe from nightfall until about midnight. Guided tours, fun tours, workshops, screenings, tastings, live shows, exceptional animations will give the public a different and open museum experience.
The 2016 edition mobilized 3000 museums in more than 30 countries in Europe. In France, two million visitors have passed through the doors of more than 1,200 museums participating in this event organized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, around 3,000 animations imagined for the event.
A night where students present works
For the fifth year in a row, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Culture and Communication are proposing "Class, Work!" , a common device to bring museums closer to students, from kindergarten to high school. Throughout the year, the students of the participating institutions study the work of a local museum, then come to present the fruit of their work on the evening of the European Night of Museums, thus becoming, in turn, smugglers of culture for a wide audience of curious. In 2016, 301 museums and 424 classes participated in this arts and cultural education program.
A night on social networks
Continuing the exchanges on social networks, the European Night of Museums this year intensifies its incentive to share, with favourites, tips, tips and photos: visitors become actors of the event by offering a special resonance.
The Twitter account @NuitdesMusees recorded more than 10,000 tweets in 2016. Find the European Night of Museums on nuitdesmusees.fr and on social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and participate with the hashtag #NDM.
The European Night of Museums is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
