Najat VALLAUD-BELKACEM, Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research, and Audrey AZOULAY, Minister of Culture and Communication, launch the call for applications «Creation in progress».
In full coherence with the government priority given to youth, “Creation in Progress” aims to strengthen the artistic presence in school and allows children in cycle 3 (Grades 4, 5, 6)th) to share a long-term creative experience with an artist. The call for applications will allow the installation of 100 young artists from all disciplines (performing arts, visual arts, film and audiovisual, books, architecture, photography, fashion, digital arts, etc.) in residence in schools and colleges that are the furthest from culture: priority neighbourhoods, rural and peri-urban areas, overseas.
The “Creation in Progress” mechanism is a concrete translation of the principle of creative freedom promoted last July by the Freedom of Creation, Architecture and Heritage Act and the concept of education “by art” recognized by the Charter for Arts and Cultural Education. It contributes to the professional integration of young artists while highlighting the quality of training provided in higher education schools in the cultural sector. It participates in the Arts and Cultural Education Pathway developed in national education for all students, which is based on three pillars: the acquisition of knowledge, encounters with artists and works and artistic practice.
According to Audrey AZOULAY “Creation in Progress” allows children to live the experience of creation, as close as possible to the artists, within the framework of the school which is the place par excellence of republican equality and the construction of citizenship”.
Najat VALLAUD-BELKACEM underlines how «Creation in progress» will contribute to the implementation of the Arts and Cultural Education Pathway for the students who will benefit from it. It is a beautiful project and an additional opportunity for the students, in addition to the artistic and cultural teachings that the school brings them».
The call for projects, open until 10 November 2016, is open to young artists who have graduated from higher education institutions in the cultural sector – in particular national graduate schools under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
The residences will start from January 2017 in all of France and will be documented over the years on the dedicated portal (www.creationencours.fr) and social networks.
«Creation in progress» is managed by the public institution of cultural cooperation «Médicis-Clichy-Montfermeil».
