Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, appoints Sylviane Manuel as director of the Verrerie d'Alès, Pôle National des Arts du Cirque Languedoc-Roussillon (PNAC). This choice was proposed, unanimously and with the approval of the president of the PNAC, by the jury meeting on October 15, 2015 and composed of all the partners of the pole: the city of Alès, Alès Agglomeration, the Departmental Council of Gard, the Regional Council of Languedoc-Roussillon and the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
Nourished by a solid experience of accompaniment of artists and development of territorial projects in the fields of circus but also theatre, street arts and new technologies, Sylviane Manuel bases her project on a spirit of sharing and conviviality.
Under his leadership, the Glassware will be this common home for artists and people ” will host two associated regional companies – Cirque VOST and Pierre-Jean Bréaud – and several artists in residencies, with particular attention to emerging generations and travelling companies under marquees.
Of gestures of hospitality for the population, especially young people with a children’s café », will foster a new dynamic on the site of Rochebelle, but also in the city’s neighbourhoods.
The territorial distribution, a strong axis deployed by the Glassware since its foundation, will be rethought at the regional level, consolidating partnerships with other circus operators such as the PNAC Circa, Grainerie, Lido and Balthazar school.
While drawing new perspectives, Sylviane Manuel’s project follows in the footsteps of outgoing founding director Guy Périlhou, to whom we must pay tribute for his strength of conviction and pugnacity, which have allowed an exceptional anchorage and irrigation of the circus of creation in the regional territory.
