The Ministry of Culture and Communication takes part in the commemorations of the centenary of the Great War by renovating and developing the national museum, the birthplace of Georges Clemenceau in Mouilleron-en-Pareds (Vendée).
Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, announces that, following a selection process based on skills, references and resources, the young Nantes agency TITAN has been selected from among five finalists, for the renovation and museum design of the national museum, because of its dynamism, its ambitious, original and resolutely contemporary project.
Renovation and museographic design of Clemenceau’s birthplace in the Vendée
Mouilleron-en-Pareds, in the heart of the Vendée bocage, saw the birth of Georges Clemenceau, winner of the Great War, and Marshal de Lattre, signatory of the German capitulation in 1945. At the initiative of André Malraux, the State created in 1959 the National Museum of Two Victories, then inaugurated in 1975 the birthplace of the Marshal of Lattre. Today, the Ministry of Culture and Communication is developing and opening to the public Clemenceau’s birthplace acquired in 2005.
Clemenceau: a demanding vision of the Republic
An ardent republican, defender of social justice, in the front line alongside Captain Dreyfus, a contemptor of colonialism, Clemenceau will be presented in his century, but also in the modernity of his ideas and his action.
The itinerary will be organized around three themes: the politician, the man of passions and the Vendean, through a singular experience of visit proposing a range of diversified mediation media.
Schedule and Budget
The museum will open in 2017 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Clemenceau’s accession to the Council.
The total cost of the work is estimated at €1,435,000 excluding tax, fully financed by the State, Ministry of Culture and Communication – Directorate General of Heritage, Museum Service of France.
