Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication, proposed to the President of the Republic to appoint Mathilde Monnier as Director General of the National Dance Centre (CND), to succeed Monique Barbaroux.
Director of the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier since 1994, Mathilde Monnier is an emblematic artist of French creation. The Minister wished to entrust him with the responsibility of the National Dance Centre, essential place for the development of public policy in the choreographic field.
Since its creation in 1998, the National Dance Centre has been a valuable resource centre, open to all dances. It provides training missions for dancers and accompaniment of professional life and actively contributes to the preservation and enhancement of choreographic heritage for the development of culture. In her project for the establishment, Mathilde Monnier will have at heart to put a stronger emphasis on the support and accompaniment of artistic creation and on the diversity of languages and expressions of the choreographic field. It will develop the CND’s relationship with audiences, notably through arts education.
The Minister particularly wishes to commend the remarkable and founding work done during her two three-year terms by Monique Barbaroux at the head of the National Dance Centre, who completed the construction of this project to make it an essential tool for the entire sector. It is precisely this work that allows us today to entrust the direction of it to one of the main artistic figures of our country. Monique Barbaroux will be called to new positions.
