Presentation of the device
What is the processing, digitization and valorization of archives on a national and international scale?
The Interministerial Service of the Archives of France (SIAF) is attached to the General Directorate of Heritage and Architecture of the Ministry of Culture. It designs, directs and controls the action of the State in matters of public archives for administrative, civic, scientific and cultural purposes.
SIAF ensures the dissemination and enhancement of archival heritage throughout the territory. It is responsible for defining policies for the collection, sorting, classification, description, conservation and communication of public archives, except those of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
Objectives of the approach
The aim of the scheme is to enable users to submit a grant application online for projects intended to:
- safeguard archives on the national territory or internationally;
- complete the collection of thematic archives;
- improve their communication conditions, in particular by digitising and putting them online;
- establish their classification and inventory;
- showcase them through the organization of exhibitions, publications, conferences and study days.

Eligible entities are legal entities that intend to carry out a national or international processing, digitization or enhancement of archives during the year of submission of the grant application.
Procedure
The amount of the grant awarded is 1,000 to 50,000 euros per project.
Grants may be renewed if the programming is multi-year.
The amount paid by the State may not exceed 80% of the total project budget.
Requests are sent to the inter-ministerial service of the Archives de France by the sub-directorate for the management, communication and exploitation of archives.
The amount of the grant is determined according to the nature of the project and the expenses necessary for its realization. The grant is paid out in one go.
The payment of the grant will take place between 3 and 6 months after investigation and verification of the completeness of the file.
Similar subsidies
Similar subsidies may also be granted to regional, departmental and communal structures through the Regional Directorates for Cultural Affairs (DRAC).
