Ministers
Since 1959, more than twenty-six different personalities have succeeded one another at the head of the ministry in charge of culture. Their powers, sometimes narrowed, sometimes extended, have varied considerably and their terms have been very unequal. Two ministers have enjoyed exceptional longevity: André Malraux and Jack Lang. Their profiles were also very varied: some ministers were close to the head of state, others, influential members of one of the majority parties, others finally, well-known personalities from the artistic and cultural world. Without tracing their entire career, the following presentation focuses essentially on identifying the main lines of their action during their mandate rue de Valois
