Across France, more than 2,000 gardens, 400 of which are exceptionally open,
will welcome the public and offer specific animations: guided tours,
demonstrations of know-how, exhibitions, games/competitions, openings until
twilight, etc.
The theme chosen for the 2012 edition «The garden and its images» will propose
reflect on the different representations of the garden, whether figurative, literary,
poetic, musical, cinematographic or imaginary. Offering quantity
information on the shape of the gardens, these works (paintings, engravings, drawings,
photographs, films, videos, etc.) also reflect the look of an era on
these creations.
Increase public understanding of the importance of knowledge, protection, and
conservation, maintenance, restoration, creation of gardens and
transfer of know-how, this is the ambition of «Rendez-vous aux jardins».
This brings together the many actions implemented by the regional directorates of
cultural affairs and local authorities, both at national and local level.
Conceived as a preamble to the event, a day of study, set in
Ministry of Culture and Communication, Directorate-General for
heritage, and the National Council of Parks and Gardens, was held on Wednesday 8
february 2012.
From the theme «the garden and its images» curators, historians, landscapers,
architects, photographers... examined the multiple representations of the garden
over the centuries, testimonies through the art of the central square that they
occupy in most cultures.
The proceedings of this day will be available on the website of the Ministry of Culture and
the Communication www.culture.fr as of March 2012.
The “Rendez-vous aux jardins” are organized by the Ministry of Culture and
Communication (Directorate-General for Assets and Regional Business Divisions
), the National Monuments Centre in collaboration with the
parks and gardens of France, the Historic House, the Old French houses.
Moët Hennessy and the National Union of Landscape Entrepreneurs (UNEP) are
the faithful patrons of this new edition of the «Rendez-vous aux jardins».
