This label was created to signal to the public places whose purpose is to preserve
and to transmit the memory of the women and men who inhabited them and
illustrated in the political, social and cultural history of France. Present in
all regions, including overseas, these houses draw a real
mapping, both unusual and close, of the places where the history of our
countries. These places show how the heritage is a living territory, animated by a
spirit of place and time, how it feeds on personality and
sensitivity of those who left their mark and inhabited it.
The Houses of the Illustrious gather places of memory to better connect
local history and national history, intimacy and collective. They reveal the role
by political, religious, scientific and artistic actors, including the
Culture and Communication intends to have the cultural dimension recognized.
The house of Elsa Triolet and Louis Aragon is part of the
the first labelling campaign, which ran from 2010 to 2011. The second
campaign will start in September 2011 and end in March 2012.
To receive this label, each House must meet a number of
conditions among which open their doors to visitors more than 40 days
and the pursuit of a goal that is not primarily commercial. The
thus guarantees visitors a quality cultural programme and modalities
visit adapted to everyone, especially the school public and
persons with disabilities.
The Maisons des Illustres label is also a valorization system that includes
especially a logotype specially created for use on all media of
communication and signalétique. It appears on a metal plate that will be
to each House indicating its belonging to the network of Houses of Illustres.
The Ministry of Culture and Communication has also launched an
space dedicated to the label on its website www.culture.fr presenting all the houses
and their cultural offerings.
Awarded for five years by the Ministry, this new label will be awarded
after a procedure conducted by the regional cultural affairs departments
and a national award commission led by the
heritages.
The label Maisons des Illustres joins the network of excellence of establishments, sites
and heritage initiatives certified by the Ministry of Culture and
Communication like the Museums of France, the Cities and Countries of art and history, the
Remarkable gardens, the Heritage of the 20th century.
