Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, has decided to create a permanent mission to enhance the cultural wealth of the French overseas territories, in particular to contribute to the economic and social development of these territories, and entrust it to Michel Colardelle, General Curator of the Atrimoine.

The Minister of Culture and Communication intends to give himself the means
to define the framework for a new, ambitious cultural policy in favour of
the French Overseas Territories, which must be part of the perspective of the French Overseas States General
requested by the President of the Republic.
Michel Colardelle will outline the new policy to the Minister and
measures necessary to implement it. These recommendations should be supported by
on a precise analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of current actions
the aspirations of the populations concerned. They will
in close liaison with the Secretary of State for Overseas Affairs.
A progress report will be delivered before the end of January 2010 by Michel
Colardelle, who resigns as director of the department with national competence
the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (MUCEM).
