A study has been made of local cultural sponsorship practices through analysis of its coverage in the regional daily press in 2007, and based on 16 typical cases, covering financial, skills-based and in-kind sponsorship. From the inception of projects to factors favouring or hindering partnerships between private enterprise and cultural players, analysis confirms the importance of a project’s territorial anchorage, as evidenced by the importance of heritage restoration projects and the unifying role of dedicated foundations, as well as the DRAC (Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles, the French regional cultural affairs body), local chambers and the importance of accountants and notaries in developing local partnerships.
