In 2019, the Pays de la Loire DRAC commissioned a diagnostic study on the canopy from Olivier Salmon, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments (ACMH).
Restoration interventions to consolidate and clean the canopy
With time and the aging of materials, structural problems arose. Interventions were undertaken to stabilize the structure as the implementation of a metal belt over the entablature. Polychromy has also received increased attention. A cleaning was carried out to eliminate the heavy dust and the polychromy was restored.
Led by Olivier Salmon under the project management of the DRAC, this work was carried out by the companies SOMEBAT (masonry-cut stone), Ateliers de la Chapelle (decorations and statuary) and Arthema (polychromy). This operation was fully financed by the appropriations of the Ministry of Culture under the Plan Cathedrales de France Relance for a total amount of 680,000 €.
Valuation operations led by mobilized actors
The site has undergone significant development. The ACMH and the DRAC have implemented regular visits to the inhabitants but also to the pupils of the schools of the south Vendée. The objective of these interventions was to present the different professions working on a restoration site. They intrigued, interested and aroused vocations.
Various mediation operations were organized by the DRAC on this site as this stone-cutting workshop during the European Heritage Days.
