Dominique CLIQUET, DRAC de Normandie, 2018, 20 p.
The history of Normandy is not limited to William the Conqueror or the D-Day beaches, it begins with the arrival of Homo heidelbergensis, ancestor of the Neanderthal man, around 500,000 years old. The most numerous and best preserved testimonies are from the Neanderthals (between 350,000 and 40,000 years old), they contribute greatly to the knowledge of the lifestyles of these hunter-gatherers, punctuated by climatic fluctuations. Due to glacial conditions, modern humans only invest sustainably in Normandy around 12,000 - 10,000 years, then settle in favor of the global warming we are experiencing.
