Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, announces the acquisition by the State for the Louvre Museum of the portrait of Count Mathieu-Louis Molé by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres.
This masterpiece of portrait art in the 19th century is one of the remarkable examples of a heritage work that remained for more than a century and a half in the Count’s family. This is the penultimate portrait of Ingres of this quality belonging to private persons.
