A beautiful edition despite the damage of the storm Ciarán
After record gusts measured at nearly 200 km/hour, Ciarán left its mark on the Breton landscape. Parks, gardens and forests suffered from this storm that passed over Brittany on the night of November 1 to 2, 2023. The areas on the coast are among those that have suffered the most damage. Some have remained closed for several months, such as the Georges Delaselle garden on Batz Island, which just reopened on April 25. Others could only give access to their alleys partially as the Domaine de Trévarez, also in Finistère. A remarkable garden labeled as the Domaine du Kestellic in the Côtes-d'Armor can reopen to the public only from this Sunday, June 2. However, there are still many this year to open their grid to delight your eyes with the colors and shapes of the plant world also suitable to surprise your sense of smell.
The five senses in the garden as the theme of the 2024 edition
For this 21st edition coordinated by the Ministry of Culture/ Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs with the assistance of theAssociation parks and gardens of Brittany, "Rendez-vous aux jardins" chooses to awaken our five senses. Sight and smell are not the only senses concerned. Hearing is naturally challenged. Each garden has its own sound footprint generated by the sound of the wind in the foliage. The song of the birds enriches it, sometimes mixed with the sounds of the water when frogs and toads, in full effervescence, do not put theirs. Touch is omnipresent in the garden. Velvety, fluffy, stringy or even stinging or stinging, vegetable surfaces offer you various sensations at your fingertips. In this season the garden also mobilizes the taste, the acidity of rhubarb and the sweetness of strawberries can be at the rendezvous.
The Breton programme promises some great discoveries:
