Contemporary heritage in the spotlight
The public (re)discovers, thanks to this brochure, 17 buildings of the city of Dijon, through the tram stops of line 1. This route highlights buildings of the XXe and XXIe centuries to enhance contemporary architecture.
Among the 17 buildings presented, 3 are labeled «Remarkable contemporary architecture» (ACR):
- the Jean-Michel Geoffroy sports palace, built from 1973 to 1977 by architects Jean-François Devalière and Michel Grangy;
- the Robert Poujade Auditorium, built from 1992 to 1998 by the American agency «Arquitectonica» and by the two Dijon architects Bougeault & Walgenwitz;
- the Champollion media library, built from 2004 to 2007 by architects François Chochon and Laurent Pierre.
What is the label «Remarkable contemporary architecture»?
In 1999, the Ministry of Culture created the XX heritage labele century” in order to take a new look at recent heritage, and above all to encourage public awareness of this architecture and its urban environment. This label was replaced during the promulgation of the law of 7 July 2016 on the freedom of creation, architecture and heritage, by the label «Remarkable contemporary architecture» (ACR).
This label is awarded to buildings, architectural ensembles, works of art and fittings, among the achievements of less than 100 years of age, whose design is of sufficient architectural or technical interest.
The objective of this itinerary is to make the public aware of and discover the architectural history of the last 100 years.
This brochure is in addition to a series of three other routes made in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Initiated by the DRAC, in connection with the Maison de l'Architecture de Franche-Comté (MAFC), they highlight the Besançon architecture through «Besançon over the tram», «Besançon, upstream of the Doubs» or «Besançon from one bank to another».
In Dijon, a second route is being planned along line 2 of the tramway. It should be available by summer 2024.
