DAC Guadeloupe et des îles du Nord promotes reading in the most remote territories, in connection with voluntary communities.
Indeed, the rurality and double insularity that characterize the territory of the archipelago of Guadeloupe (islands of Saintes, Marie Galante, La Désirade) can hinder access to culture.
Also, as part of the action Books of one’s own, the librarians of the commune of Capesterre de Marie Galante (3,000 hab) obtained a trunk of 40 albums for youth (value 450 €) in order to create animations for babies and young readers (0-7 years).
Books of one’s own is a national programme for the mediation of children’s literature, the democratisation of reading and the prevention of illiteracy illustrated youth book as a vector of social inclusion and support for parenthood.
This program is offered to active communities for public reading on their territory. By signing the convention, they commit to act and provide an assessment of the actions carried out at the library or outside the walls.
On April 18, thanks to our colleagues from the Department of Historical Monuments, Cyril Goutte and Patrick Le Bris, on a mission to Marie-Galante, Mesdames Bordin and Rouvier of the Bibliothèque de Capesterre de Marie-Galante were able to receive this 40-pound trunk:
