How did you come to create the poster for this 5e Cultural Summer edition?
Groduk and Boucar: The poster of this 5e edition is a variation of the poster we made last year. The project was entrusted to us via our agency, LASLOW, which put us in touch with the Ministry of Culture, following a consultation.
What were the difficulties of the exercise?
G. and B. : The main challenge was to succeed in graphically illustrating a rather abstract idea because it is a financial aid and support system set up for summer cultural and artistic projects. We therefore sought to represent one of the main values of the cultural summer, namely the diversity of the audiences to whom this event is addressed. Our illustration also shows the variety of locations where projects can take place.
From a graphical point of view, what were your main inspirations?
G. and B. : We started from the idea of a pool seen from above in which we would find inflatable objects that take the form of cultural objects: a cello, a painter’s palette, a book, etc. For inspirations, we can quote David Hockney for the pool, the inflatable objects («inflatable objects») present in pop culture or surrealism.
What does it mean for you to have been chosen by the Ministry of Culture to represent the Cultural Summer?
G. and B. : We are very proud to be able to work with an institution like this one! We like the idea that our work can reach, through this operation, a wide and varied audience. In the future, we would very much like to work with other public institutions.
The course of Groduk and Boucar
Margaux Hauduc and Océane Carbou met in Paris, on the benches of the prestigious Estienne School dedicated to graphic arts. Once graduated, they decide to work together around a common universe with shimmering colors. Today, their work is articulated between a personal production that gives rise to exhibitions and a commission work for companies (Galeries Lafayette, Snapchat, Apple), for the press (Libération, Society, L'Hémicyle) or music festivals. More recently, Groduk and Boucar realized their first music video in motion design with artist Almond Butyl.
