Artistic commission
For the Minister of Culture, the issue of art and culture in the public space is "an essential democratic issue", affecting in particular "the learning of citizenship" and "the encounter with social diversity". This is why it has made it one of the major axes of its policy to promote new modes of access to culture.
The map of the artistic commission
This map lists more than 2,000 artistic commissions from the three devices: public commission and support for artistic commissions, 1% artistic commission and 1 building, 1 work charter.
It was created in 2022 by the Ministry of Culture in partnership with the association A-Pack whose research program on art in the public space is backed by a contributory digital project of referencing works: AtlasMuseum .
A webapp, accessible via any mobile phone or smartphone (Android or Apple IOS), allows you to discover these works by geolocation by visiting this page.
This mapping is not exhaustive. You can contribute to its enrichment directly via the site Atlasmuseum or depending on the realization concerned, by writing to app@atlasmuseum.org ; unpourcent.dgca@culture.gouv.fr ; or 1immeuble1oeuvre@culture.gouv.fr.
The artistic commission policy is divided into three areas: public commission and support for artistic commissions, 1% artistic commission and 1 building, 1 work charter.
I. Public commissions and support for artistic commissions
Support for the public artistic commission embodies the will of the State, Ministry of Culture, associated with multiple partners (local authorities, public institutions or private partners), to disseminate contemporary creation, to enrich our living environment and the national heritage, by the presence of works of art outside the institutions specialized in the field of contemporary art.
II. The 1% artistic
The 1% artistic in public constructions: expression of the public will to support the creation and to sensitize our fellow citizens to the art of our time, «the obligation of decoration of public constructions», commonly called «1% artistic» is a specific procedure for ordering works from artists that is binding on the State, its public institutions and local authorities.
III. 1 building, 1 work
Created in 2015, the charter 1 building, 1 work aims to install art as close to everyone, in private buildings. It is part of the Department’s policy to support artistic creation and promote the visual arts to the widest possible audience.
