Annual survey of print and online press titles
Each year, the Ministry of Culture conducts a survey of print publishers in order to gather the data attractive to this sector (counting titles, prints, distribution, turnover, etc.). This administrative survey is a reference tool for public authorities and professionals, and a source of studies for researchers.
Presentation
Annual Print Media Headline Survey has been conducted for over 50 years
The annual survey of newspapers and periodicals in the print press covers the various newspapers and magazines, with the exception of the group press, the administrative press, the business press and confidential letters.
This survey comprises, on the one hand, a "publisher" questionnaire containing data on the activity of the enterprise and, on the other hand, a "title" questionnaire for each of its publications.
Produced at the end of the first half of each year, its main results are published the following year in the press statistics tables (TSP) and in a long series starting in 1985.
The annual survey extends to online press services (SPEL) from 2020
Since 2020, this administrative survey has been assessing the situation of websites recognized as “online press services” (SPEL) by the Joint Commission on Publications and News Agencies (CPPAP).
The replies to this questionnaire allow DGIMIC to produce a first series of overall numerical results on site visits, their turnover by major revenue items, as well as a portion of the main production and management costs of online press companies.
