Management and Conservation

There is no single answer, but adapted answers that must take into account each time the meaning of the whole and each item but also their fragility. An album, for example, is an object as such that does not require a systematic dismantling to protect each print. Degradation factors must be considered. These factors are both internal (related to manufacturing processes) and external. Manipulations, direct packaging (pouches, boxes) or indirect packaging (furniture, premises), such as environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light, pollutants) cause or accelerate alteration processes.

The following recommendations therefore concern both classification, handling and storage conditions. They also aim to prioritize the necessary interventions and thus facilitate their programming. Digitization because it involves manipulation is to be taken into account in the overall strategy of conservation.
