Every month, on this page, the museums of France, who for the first time post notices on Joconde, the collective catalogue of the collections of the museums of France, present their collections and their willingness to participate in this common resource. A link inserted on each instalment allows you to directly display the notices distributed on POP, an open platform of wealth. You can also find out more about each of the museums by clicking on the link to its Museéofile, the French museum directory.

The history of the Ziem Museum is closely linked to the person of Félix Ziem (Beaune, 1821- Paris, 1911). The one who was to be called the «painter of Venice», discovered Martigues in 1839 and set up a studio there in 1860. He stayed there regularly until the 1890s.
In 1908 he offered the city, «as a tribute to the City in which he had lived many years of his artistic life», one of the sketches of the work commissioned by the State Toulon, visit of President Loubet to the French and Italian squadrons in April 1901The municipality then decided to build a “temple of art” to “perpetuate Ziem’s memory.” This desire is accompanied by the desire to complete this creation by the presentation of Provençal painters. To this end, the mayor launched a call for donations, which was answered by 57 artists. The museum opened in 1910.
Since then it has moved three times and has been enriched by many other types of collections: archaeology, ethnography and contemporary art have found their place there. With three annual exhibitions, two of which have been based on the permanent fund for more than fifteen years, the institution values all of its departments while continuing to maintain a privileged place for the works of Félix Ziem.
The contributions on Mona Lisa are part of this strong desire to make accessible the collections but also to show all their richness.
