The town of Saint-Raphaël is located on one of the main ancient roads linking Spain to Rome, in the department of Var. It was built in support of its fishing and trading port, around its church and fortified village.

Saint-Raphaël has developed remarkably around resort tourism, composed of many villas and their park. This ensemble thus forms a garden city between sea and hills.

Given the density and overall value of its heritage, the conservation, restoration, rehabilitation and development of Saint-Raphaël are of historical, architectural and landscape interest.

The ministerial decree of 22 July 2022 classified 3 remarkable heritage sites covering the territory of the municipality of Saint-Raphaël: «the coastal fringe of Santa Lucia and Boulouris», «the city center and its immediate suburbs, Notre-Dame and the Cazeaux» and “the Trayas”.

This decision follows consultations with all the stakeholders concerned.

The classification of outstanding heritage sites and the future development of their management plan will ensure the best possible conditions for the conservation and presentation of the heritage of the city of Saint-Raphaël, particularly in relation to government services (in particular the DRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and the architect of the Bâtiments de France).
