The town of Port-Vendres inherits a rich history, from antiquity to the present day. Fortified by Vauban in the 17th century and with a regular urban layout, the town comprises 8 buildings protected as historical monuments.

Located at the foot of the Massif des Albères, the territory is characterized by a varied landscape composed of a contrasting relief, where viticulture has developed into terraces, offering a major landscape background from the city and the port.

Given the density and overall value of its heritage, the conservation, restoration, rehabilitation and development of Port-Vendres is of historical, architectural and landscape interest.

The ministerial order of 29 June 2022 classified the remarkable heritage site of Port-Vendres.

This decision follows consultations with all the stakeholders concerned.

The classification of the remarkable heritage site and the future development of a management plan will ensure in the best conditions the conservation and presentation of the heritage of the municipality of Port-Vendres in connection with the services of the State (in particular the DRAC Occitanie and the architect of the Buildings of France).
