The commune of Béziers is located in the department of Hérault, in the Occitanie region. Occupied since high antiquity, it then becomes a medieval town of importance. Its attractiveness is the fruit of the richness of the territory it occupies by its proximity to the coast as well as various activities, including wine and river.


The municipality of Béziers houses part of the buffer zone of the Canal du Midi, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996, and has 35 buildings protected as historical monuments.
In view of the density and overall value of its heritage, the conservation, restoration, rehabilitation and development of Béziers is of historical, architectural and landscape interest.

The Ministerial Order of June 8, 2022, amended the Béziers Remarkable Heritage Site

This decision follows consultations with all the stakeholders concerned.

The modification of the remarkable heritage site and the future development of a management plan will ensure in the best conditions the conservation and presentation of the heritage of the city of Béziers in connection with the services of the State (in particular the DRAC Occitanie and the architect of the Buildings of France).
