Intervene on a listed or registered organ
Organs classified as historical monuments may not be modified, repaired or restored without an authorization issued by the regional prefect (DRAC). The modification, repair or restoration of an organ registered as a historical monument must be the subject of a prior declaration to the regional prefect (DRAC).
Any intervention of repair, restoration or restoration on an organ protected as historical monuments (organcase and/ or instrumental part) is carried out under the scientific and technical supervision of the State following a programme which must be defined by a qualified supervisor, if necessary in a preliminary study.
More than 1590 organs are protected as historical monuments.
Organs classified and listed as historical monuments are subject to specific procedures for their conservation and restoration, detailed in a practical guide.
Before work
Before any work is carried out, it is up to the owner to contact the State services in charge of historical monuments (Regional Directions of Cultural Affairs - DRAC).
The modification, repair, restoration or restoration of a classified organ cannot be carried out without a work permit issued, in the name of the regional prefect, by the competent DRAC (art. L. 622-7) after receipt of the form requesting authorization for work by the contracting authority.
Repair, lifting or restoration work involving a registered organ must be the subject of a prior declaration sent two months in advance to the decentralized service in charge of architecture and heritage which notifies the regional prefect (DRAC) (art. R. 622–39).
During the work
The work is carried out under the scientific and technical supervision of the State services in charge of historical monuments.
The works of modification, repair, restoration or restoration of an organ classified or registered as a historical monument as well as those undertaken on the unprotected parts of the partially protected organs are ensured by a qualified prime contractor pursuant to sections R. 622-59 to 61 of the heritage code.
The heritage code specifies the categories of professionals to whom the owner or assignee of an organ classified or registered as a historical monument is required to entrust the project management of the restoration work.
A practical guide on organ protection and conservation details all the procedures, methodology, actors and resources useful for the protection and conservation of this heritage.
