Intervene on a classified building
Buildings whose conservation is of public interest from the point of view of history or art may be classified as historic monuments.
Buildings classified as historical monuments, because of their historical, artistic or architectural interest, are subject to special provisions for their conservation so that all maintenance work, repair, restoration or modification can be carried out while maintaining the cultural interest that justified their protection.
Pursuant to Article L. 621-9 Under the Heritage Code, a building classified as a historical monument may not be destroyed or moved or be the subject of restoration or modification work without authorization issued by the regional prefect.
The procedure for granting a work authorization is laid down in Articles R. 621-11 to R. 621-14. This authorization is posted on the public highway for the duration of the project (R. 621-16).
The authorized works are carried out under the scientific and technical control of the State departments responsible for historical monuments, which are carried out from the beginning of the documentary and technical preparatory studies and throughout the work until completion (R. 621-20).
The task of controlling the work must be entrusted to the categories of specialised professionals specified in Article R. 621-26 for repairs and articles R. 621-27 and R. 621-28 for restoration work.
