Innovation in language and digital
The aim is to measure, encourage and promote the presence of quality resources and data available in French and French, to support the use and development of language standards and technologies (machine translation, voice recognition and synthesis, etc.), to preserve linguistic diversity and multilingualism, particularly in the creative sector.
Measuring and developing resources for the French language
It is a major cultural challenge to develop linguistic tools and resources that reinforce the historical role of French as an international language for the transmission of knowledge and enable companies to innovate in this field.
The Ministry of Culture encourages the provision of quality data (for example, structured, documented, linked or embedded data in the semantic web) in open licenses, allowing their reuse.
The Ministry of Culture participated in the implementation of the French Dictionary, a reference resource for open access, open to contributions from all.
Gameloft, with the support of the department, relied on the Dictionnaire des Francophones to produce the first mobile video game centred on the French language, Exploratio.
The Ministry of Culture supports the development of the semantic web or semantic web to develop the ecosystem around linked data and to pilot innovative projects involving actors and cultural partners.
Supporting language technologies and standardization
Language technologies are a priority for public policy: a sovereignty issue for France and Europe, they contribute to the improvement of the daily life of our citizens, the development of our economy and the strengthening of our trade.
These technologies are now ubiquitous in our daily lives and allow multiple applications such as machine translation, voice and emotion recognition, interactions with devices or robots, research or access to cultural content.
This is about ensure that French plays a significant role in these technologies, but also to develop new tools for French languages whose technological equipment remains weak. It is also a matter of ensuring that the standards allow the use of these languages and the passage from one language to another.
The Ministry of Culture participated in the definition of the French standard of improved «azerty» keyboards, effective today.

The Ministry of Culture proposes the establishment of a Reference Centre for Language Technologies and Innovation, attached to the future Cité internationale de la langue française et de la francophonie in Villers-Cotterêts.
Supporting and encouraging linguistic diversity
DGLFLF conducts and supports various projects to encourage linguistic diversity in the digital field. This is particularly the case as regards the languages of France, the maintenance of certain regional languages based largely on the availability of freely accessible resources on the Internet (dictionaries, media, encyclopedias, etc.).
It is also important to better understand the place occupied by these languages on the web, to identify or accompany contributory dynamics, to encourage artistic creation using language or language technologies.
The Ministry of Culture initiated and supports the Lingua libre project, the participatory linguistic media library of Wikimedia France that brings linguistic diversity to life.
