Supporting and encouraging linguistic diversity in the digital domain
The scope of action of the DGLFLF is the entire national territory, which includes the French language, but also the other languages present in the territory, in particular nearly 80 regional languages, of which about 50 are used in the communities of Outre-and other languages of national use such as French sign language.
The availability of technologies and language resources for the French and the languages of France For DGLFLF, this is a major issue at the heart of our policies. Not all languages in our territory have the same level of technological support: some languages do not have the resources and tools to interact with users, such as machine translation, speech synthesis, automatic text generation, or assisted writing (auto-completions, spelling or grammatical correction, etc.)
The vitality of a language is increasingly influenced by its presence on digital ecosystems. This is why DGLFLF supports and encourages all initiatives in this field, in connection with the actors of the world of research, and industrialists. The “Languages and Digital” call for projects Held between 2016 and 2018, it has helped to support nearly fifty project leaders in this field.
DGLFLF continues its action to date through the implementation of a language reference window in France, providing access to the majority of the information and resources available on the Web for each language of France, as well as to the actors of the territory that support them, and whose opening is planned by the end of 2022.
