European Parliament
The European Parliament, the only institution of the European Union directly elected by the people, has 751 members. It represents 512 million citizens. Members are elected by universal suffrage every five years. The last European elections took place from 23 to 26 May 2019. It has legislative, budgetary and political control powers and prepares numerous texts (Reports; Opinions; Amendments; Draft reports; Draft opinions; Working documents, etc.). MEPs are divided into 20 specialised committees.
