Financing an action thanks to the Low Carbon Label
The Low Carbon Label was created by the Ministry of Ecological Transition in 2018. It certifies that an action contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The ministry has validated several possible methods of carbon sequestration: reforestation or planting, agriculture, building rehabilitation…
Thus, an institution can, on a voluntary basis, obtain the Low Carbon Label for one of its actions. In return, it obtains financing from another structure (for example a company whose activity or action emits greenhouse gases): this one has the obligation to offset its emissions.
The action to be labeled must be additional to those you already carry out.
Project funding and allocation of associated emission reductions are equivalent to the purchase of a service delivery for this structure.
Steps to take to join
A form must be completed on the Label’s website.
- First step: check that you comply with the method approved by the Low Carbon Label and start with an online project notification via the platform «Simplified procedures»
- Second stage: the application for the label of the project by filing an application
- Third stage: the appraisal of the project after having submitted the file and having notified the authority, this stage lasts 2 months.
- Stage 4: Project awarded the Low Carbon Label
- Step five is the request for verification of emission reductions. 5 years after the notification date, the project owner has an audit carried out to verify that the project still complies with the Label
- Step six: the request for recognition of emission reductions for the benefit of the funder.
Benefits: Why apply for the Low Carbon Label?
This label is a way for a structure to finance your activities with an ecological scope, justifying the efforts envisaged and the will to go further. The Label can also be used in communication around the project, to objectify efforts and expose them to the public.
It is also possible to apply as a project funder, and thus contribute to the reduction of emissions from other structures.
